Research Interests
Paola Uparela has been interested on the processes of national building and the problems around the representation, inclusion, and exclusion. She has found herself drawn to literature in convergence with not only sociological and ethical problems, but with anthropological and historical ones as well. In Colombia, she has worked in academic researches around ethnographic writing, and with Indigenous communities from all over the country who live in very remote areas. She see the possibility to examine the colonial grammar and the ambiguities and paradoxes of modern national identity formation making visible the colonial logic of national inclusion.
